Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street Movie Review!
.
Starring Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a musical movie whereby it begins with the story about Benjamin Barker, a man who is wrongly imprisoned by a judge & returns as barber Sweeney Todd to seeks revenge.
The story is kind of short & fill with unnecessary plot & scenes that include characters who doesn't even seem like they are connected with the story at all. What really missing in the story is actually Sweeney Todd or Benjamin Barker himself.
He basically singing & slashing people's throats most of the time & not much were told about his life whether it is before, during or after he was sentence to jail. Johnny as usual did a wonderful job in playing the character Sweeney & not forgetting Helena herself who also did a great job in playing Mrs. Lovett.
It is fortunate for the movie & the audiences to have these both great actor & actress acting & singing together. If not, this movie might turn out to be a complete dissapointment. Putting them together really helps you to swift your attention to their performance & makes you forget about having to go through those awful story line.
As for the musical part, all the songs in the movie are just lovely to hear although some may feel like it does not match with certain scenes. There is one actually reminds me of a Disney movie called Beauty & the Beast! Anyway, all the songs in the movie are nice, lovely & definitely deserve to win a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy genre & it did won.
Well, overall Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is still a fun & enjoyable movie to watch even though it does not have any breathtaking art design, special effect or cinematography & even story line as well.
Wonderful performances, cutting & slashing people's throats, fake blood, turning human into meat pies & a nice musical songs along the way are some of the best part that you will get in this movie!

Blu-Ray Dominates, HD DVD Discontinued!
The High Definition format war between
Blu-Ray & HD DVD disc has finally ended.
And the winner is BLU-RAY.
Here are the full press release by Toshiba, thanks to ComingSoon.net.
Toshiba Corporation today announced that it has undertaken a thorough
review of its overall strategy for HD DVD and has decided it will no longer
develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders. This
decision has been made following recent major changes in the market.
Toshiba will continue, however, to provide full product support and
after-sales service for all owners of Toshiba HD DVD products.
HD DVD was developed to offer consumers access at an affordable price
to high-quality, high definition content and prepare them for the digital
convergence of tomorrow where the fusion of consumer electronics and
IT will continue to progress.
"We carefully assessed the long-term impact of continuing the so-called
'next-generation format war' and concluded that a swift decision will best
help the market develop," said Atsutoshi Nishida, President and CEO of
Toshiba Corporation. "While we are disappointed for the company and
more importantly, for the consumer, the real mass market opportunity for
high definition content remains untapped and Toshiba is both able and
determined to use our talent, technology and intellectual property to make
digital convergence a reality."
Toshiba will continue to lead innovation, in a wide range of technologies that
will drive mass market access to high definition content. These include high
capacity NAND flash memory, small form factor hard disk drives, next
generation CPUs, visual processing, and wireless and encryption technologies.
The company expects to make forthcoming announcements around strategic
progress in these convergence technologies.
Toshiba will begin to reduce shipments of HD DVD players and recorders to
retail channels, aiming for cessation of these businesses by the end of March
2008. Toshiba also plans to end volume production of HD DVD disk drives for
such applications as PCs and games in the same timeframe, yet will continue to
make efforts to meet customer requirements. The company will continue to
assess the position of notebook PCs with integrated HD DVD drives within the
overall PC business relative to future market demand.
This decision will not impact on Toshiba's commitment to standard DVD, and
the company will continue to market conventional DVD players and recorders.
Toshiba intends to continue to contribute to the development of the DVD
industry, as a member of the DVD Forum, an international organization with
some 200 member companies, committed to the discussion and defining of
optimum optical disc formats for the consumer and the related industries.
Toshiba also intends to maintain collaborative relations with the companies
who joined with Toshiba in working to build up the HD DVD market, including
Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, and DreamWorks Animation and
major Japanese and European content providers on the entertainment side, as
well as leaders in the IT industry, including Microsoft, Intel, and HP. Toshiba
will study possible collaboration with these companies for future business
opportunities, utilizing the many assets generated through the development of
HD DVD.

February DVD Releases I Must Own...
.
After winning a total of 7 awards including best film & director in the Golden Horse Awards 2007, Lust Caution is definitely one movie that is worth checking out for those who have not seen it in the theaters. It is one unique & art type of film & the atmosphere, art direction & along with a lovely score in the background is what I like most about the movie.
With a production budget of US$15 million, Lust Caution has grossed a total of more than US$60 million worldwide & will be release in NC-17 & R-Rated edition DVD format on the 19th of February 2008.
With a stunning visual graphic, Beowulf would have been a perfect animation movie if it has a great story & action sequences in it, but too bad, it does not have any of the above.
Well, guess the visual alone would have satisfied some of the audiences out there, at least I know I'm one of them.
With a production budget of US$150 million, Beowulf has grossed a total worldwide of more than US$194 million & will be release in a single disc DVD format & a 2-disc director's cut edition in both DVD & HD DVD format on the 26th of February 2008.
This movie might not be as fun to watch in the cinema but I believe it will make a great DVD movie at home. It happens sometimes to a certain movies where you might not really enjoy it while you're watching at the big screen but back in your comfy home, it might turns out to be a fantastic film to watch. Personally I think it's a great movie.
With a production budget of US$30 million, 30 Days of Night has already grossed a total worldwide of more than US$66 million & will be release in both DVD & Blu-Ray format on the 26th of February 2008. For those owning region 1 PSP, it also comes in UMD format.
