Starring Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a musical movie whereby it begins with the story about Benjamin Barker, a man who is wrongly imprisoned by a judge & returns as barber Sweeney Todd to seeks revenge.
The story is kind of short & fill with unnecessary plot & scenes that include characters who doesn't even seem like they are connected with the story at all. What really missing in the story is actually Sweeney Todd or Benjamin Barker himself.
He basically singing & slashing people's throats most of the time & not much were told about his life whether it is before, during or after he was sentence to jail. Johnny as usual did a wonderful job in playing the character Sweeney & not forgetting Helena herself who also did a great job in playing Mrs. Lovett.
It is fortunate for the movie & the audiences to have these both great actor & actress acting & singing together. If not, this movie might turn out to be a complete dissapointment. Putting them together really helps you to swift your attention to their performance & makes you forget about having to go through those awful story line.
As for the musical part, all the songs in the movie are just lovely to hear although some may feel like it does not match with certain scenes. There is one actually reminds me of a Disney movie called Beauty & the Beast! Anyway, all the songs in the movie are nice, lovely & definitely deserve to win a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy genre & it did won.
Well, overall Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is still a fun & enjoyable movie to watch even though it does not have any breathtaking art design, special effect or cinematography & even story line as well.
Wonderful performances, cutting & slashing people's throats, fake blood, turning human into meat pies & a nice musical songs along the way are some of the best part that you will get in this movie!
