Speed Racer Movie Review!

Go Speed Racer Go! The song really gets into your head. You know what, I kind of enjoy watching Speed Racer to be honest. I don't really understand why people are giving it bad reviews. I remember way before the movie were release, people already giving bad comments saying that it will sucks, flopped, worst movie of the year, bla bla bla & after the movie was released last week, these people begins to give good comments saying that it's entertaining, fun, this & that.

So, to trust a review or not? Well, I guess you'll just have to follow your heart.

Speed Racer tells the story of Speed who has lost his brother Rex during a race when he was young but continue to fulfill the legacy which his brother has left. Speed is loyal to the family racing business & his father, Pops, is the designer of Speed's thundering Mach 5.

When Speed turns down on a tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he discover that some of the biggest races are being fixed & if he did not race for Royalton, the Mach 5 will never crosses another finish line. The only way for Speed to save his family's business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie, Speed teams with the mysterious Racer X to put Royalton behind bars.

Speed Racer is not purely about car racing, it's more of a family movie which is why makes it so great & entertaining to watch. The relationship, emotional & the supportive that he gets from the family are all nicely done here. The casting is brilliant although nothing extraordinary on the acting side. They really look & feel like a real family. Since it's more on the family side of the story, you wouldn't be suprise if I tell you that it's simple & predictable.

I really love the combination of japanese anime in the movie although some of these scenes might be overly done or too much. As for the special effect, nothing really fascinating about it but I believe it's one of a major breakthrough. The lightning & colors effect are some of the things that we have not seen before. I believe you will have a better experience if you watch the movie in IMAX theater.

Of course every movie has their bad points & Speed Racer has a few as well. If the movie runs slightly shorter for let's say 20 minutes, it will be fantastic. The scene where Speed is being lectured about how the real racing business should work is presented way too long & draggy. In my opinion, they might as well use this time to give Christina Ricci more time screen as I believe there isn't much developement on her character. That include with Matthew Fox as well. Although it's fun to have the japanese anime along the way, but as I've mentioned, it is overly done & some people might finds it corny & ridiculous. The whole presentation of the movie just feels like a combination of a cartoon plus video game. I mean I find it artistic but other people might find it cartoonish & fake so it's really depend.

Well, I would say that Speed Racer is a fun & entertaining movie to watch with your friends & family. For those seeking for purely car racing action, you might not find it in this movie. On the other side, if you are those seeking for a family type of movie with some special effects along the way, this might be the right movie for you. Overall, I've enjoyed the movie very much & will definitely buying the DVD when it is release.
